Most people travel to Iceland to experience some of the world’s most amazing scenery. And yes, the scenery is spectacular and definitely worth seeing. But what surprised and delighted me most during my travels in Iceland was discovering the country’s rich history, creative culture, and strong storytelling traditions.
Beyond waterfalls and glaciers, Iceland offers excellent museums, vibrant contemporary art, fascinating sagas rooted in medieval literature, and a deep connection between place, history, and daily life. Reykjavik’s cultural scene alone is worth lingering over, with galleries, music, design, and literature woven into the fabric of the city.
