Ireland astonishes with its beauty, its friendly people, and its rich history. You can’t be in the country for more than a few hours before someone mentions the independence won in 1922, the amazing number of famous writers with Irish heritage, and the fact that Ireland is not Britain.
I casually mentioned to a fellow North American that the thin biscuits being offered at tea time were common in Britain and was swiftly corrected by the Irish lady behind us. “We are not in Britain.”
Oops! A member of the European Union, Ireland uses the Euro as currency and looks south to the continent more than east to the UK. They are justifiably proud of their history and their heritage, and are very welcoming of visitors. Touring Ireland is a joy.
From this page, you’ll find posts about Dublin and the West of Ireland. Soon to come is also a post about Belfast which is, of course, in Northern Ireland. My grandad was from Belfast and always considered himself Irish first and British a very distant second.
